West Dundee River Challenge (bike race)

The ‘leg breaker’ finish of the West Dundee River Challenge returns for a fifth year!

With a population of 7,331, West Dundee has managed to keep its quaintness and small-town feeling intact. Designated historical sites fill the downtown and surrounding residential neighborhood. Restored buildings include structures reported to have provided refuge for slaves on the Underground Railroad. As part of the upper Fox River Valley in northern Illinois, West Dundee enjoys one of the region’s most unique and treasured assets, the Fox River greenway. The Fox River serves as the Village’s eastern border and is quickly becoming one of the community’s finest recreational areas.

In addition to the days races, the West Dundee River Challenge offers fun activities for spectators and the community at large, all headquartered at Grafelman Park (4th & Washington):
>> Oversized lawn games will be available throughout the day to keep you (and the kids) entertained.
>> Dinner and drinks available from Emmett’s and Bleuroot from 1:00-8:00 pm.
>> Kids who come to the event with decorated helmets will be included in a contest for the best decorated helmets!
>> Kids Safety Check and MiniCamp 101 – Professional cyclists will give the kids bike a full safety check, followed by a mini bike camp! Meet at the Volunteer & Information Tent (west of tennis court).
>> Kids Races at 6:15 pm – Register at the event by 6:00 pm, at the Volunteer & Information Tent (west of tennis court). Helmets required.
>> Family Ride at 6:30 pm – Register at the event by 6:00 pm, at the Volunteer & Information Tent (west of tennis court). Helmets required.
>> Concert in the Park from 7:00-8:30 pm – The Lennys! will rock the park with family friendly hits from the 50s through today.

SBA Launches ‘Community Navigator Pilot’ Program Application

Today, the U.S. Small Business Administration launched the Community Navigator Pilot Program, a $100 million grant program enacted through the American Rescue Plan Act, which will provide counseling, networking and the assistance needed during this time of economic recovery to the nation’s smallest businesses. The program will target small businesses owned by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals, as well as women and veterans.

The SBA will engage with states, local governments, SBA resource partners, and other organizations in targeted outreach efforts. These partners and people in the community are key to this pilot program as they will serve as a two-way information stream, enabling enterprising business owners to receive the help needed from the SBA.

New guidance for fully vaccinated individuals from the Illinois Department of Public Health

Attached is the new guidance for fully vaccinated individuals from the Illinois Department of Public Health that reflects the changes that the CDC announced today.

This, along with entering the “Bridge to Phase 5” on May 14, introduces some pretty significant movement back to normal, which is very exciting.

These changes will require organizations to review their policies for staff and customers to assure a smooth transition. Please let us know how we can assist.

More info about the bridge to phase 5 can be found at: https://coronavirus.illinois.gov/s/bridge-phase

The key to success is getting more people vaccinated. Kane County has one of the highest rates of vaccine administration in the State; 52.3% of 16 – 64 year olds and 84.4% of those 65+ have had at least one shot. We hope to get many more vaccinated over the coming weeks.

Clinic info is at: www.kanevax.org
