Position Summary:

To oversee the provision of bilingual/bicultural information, advocacy and referral services to individuals and families by telephone, in person appointments and participation in community events. This position also advances the mission of Centro by assessing community outreach needs and developing strategies to increase awareness of and access to Centro’s programs and services. This position is a member of the agency’s staff leadership team and reports to the Executive Director.

This is a full-time position that is to be performed in-person.

The mission of Centro de Información is to empower Hispanics with the ability to effectively integrate into our greater community through the facilitation of information, education, citizenship and well-being. Centro provides immigration and naturalization services, employment aid, an emergency food pantry, educational seminars, public benefits outreach and advocacy and more. Centro has been serving in the community since 1972 and serves over 7,000 clients each year.

Each office location (Elgin, Carpentersville and Hanover Park) is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Duties / Functions:

· Responsible for the agency’s community outreach efforts, based on strategic directives from the Executive Director, and in consultation with the Centro staff team, to ensure the agency’s maximum participation in a wide range of area events addressing issues such as employment, health, immigration, citizenship, education, safety, financial management, parenting, food security and English language learning. These efforts are to be done in coordination both internally with other Centro staff and with a variety of external community agency partners and contacts in order to best reach populations in need of Centro’s services. This responsibility includes the monitoring, successful completion and evaluation of all community outreach efforts on a monthly basis.

 

  • Develop and implement educational seminars and workshops addressing staff team identified community needs on a monthly basis to meet grant goals.
  • Oversee Centro staff team entries of client and resource information to organization’s various platforms to ensure effective referral, advocacy, and grant reporting of clients served.
  • Coordinate the training and supervision of community outreach staff and volunteers.
  • Alleviate crises by responding with appropriate and relevant referrals and intervention.
  • Recruit and involve community volunteers to participate in agency events that will advance the mission of the organization.
  • Prepare all reports pertinent to the community outreach program and submit to Assistant Director for review before submission to funding sources and granting institutions on a monthly basis.
  • Assume other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Non-profit organization work experience preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office programs
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain detailed, accurate records.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English and bicultural including understanding of the immigrant experience and obstacles due to language barriers, legal status, and poverty.
  • Strong communication skills including excellent written and verbal competencies and the ability to speak in public and to interact with community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must have your own transportation.
  • Occasional lifting of agency materials up to 50 pounds
